What Is A Vacuum Furnace?

A vacuum furnace is a device that uses a vacuum system to remove some of the material from the furnace cavity, creating a pressure below one atmosphere and achieving a vacuum state within the cavity.

A vacuum furnace consists of a furnace chamber, heating elements, a temperature control system, a vacuum system, a water cooling system, and a sealed furnace shell. The furnace chamber is primarily made of stainless steel, ceramic fiber, molybdenum foil, or graphite, with rated temperatures ranging from 750℃ to 2200℃. Heating elements mainly include resistance wire, silicon carbide rods, molybdenum wire/rod, silicon molybdenum rods, graphite, and induction coils, with maximum temperatures ranging from 750℃ to 2200℃.

Why Is Vacuum Heat Treatment The Best Choice For Medical Mold Manufacturing?

Compared to traditional heat treatment, vacuum heat treatment involves heating, holding, and cooling in a near-perfect vacuum environment. This unique environment brings revolutionary improvements to mold processing:

1. No oxidation, no decarburization, and excellent gloss: The vacuum environment effectively isolates oxygen, preventing oxidation during heating and the formation of oxide scale on the surface. It also avoids carbon loss (decarburization).

This means that the mold's dimensional changes are minimal after treatment, the surface retains its original metallic color, and it remains bright and new, requiring no subsequent cleaning or processing, saving costs and time.

2. Minimal deformation and extremely high precision: The vacuum furnace uses radiant heating, resulting in uniform and slow temperature rise. The small temperature difference between the inside and outside of the workpiece greatly reduces thermal stress. Combined with high-pressure gas quenching technology, uniform and rapid cooling can be achieved, further reducing structural stress and deformation.

For precision molds with complex structures and extremely high precision requirements, micron-level deformation control is crucial for success.

3. Comprehensive Performance Enhancement: The vacuum environment effectively removes residual gases and impurities from the workpiece, purifying the metal surface and allowing the material's properties to be fully realized.

After treatment, the mold's hardness, wear resistance, fatigue strength, and overall mechanical properties are superior to those of molds treated with traditional processes.

4. Environmentally Friendly and Pollution-Free: The entire vacuum heat treatment process requires no combustion, producing no oil fumes or waste gas emissions. It is a clean and environmentally friendly green process, fully compliant with the sustainable development requirements of modern manufacturing.

Significant Advantages Of Vacuum Furnaces

1. Prevention of oxidation and contamination: The high vacuum environment virtually eliminates the effects of oxidation and other contaminants.

2. Improved material properties: Vacuum furnaces achieve purer surface finishes and enhance the mechanical properties of materials.

3. High controllability: Precise control of temperature, pressure, and other conditions allows for more precise operations.

4. Energy efficient: Compared to conventional furnaces, vacuum furnaces typically consume less energy and are more efficient.

5. Wide applicability: Suitable vacuum processing methods can be found for everything from metal parts to semiconductor devices.
