Custom Vacuum Heat Treating Furnaces Expert
Vacuum heat treatment is a comprehensive technology that combines vacuum technology and heat treatment. It refers to the process where all or part of the heat treatment is carried out under vacuum conditions. Vacuum heat treatment furnaces have high thermal efficiency, allowing for rapid heating and cooling. They can achieve oxidation-free, decarburization-free, and carburization-free processing, remove phosphorus scale from the workpiece surface, and provide degreasing and degassing effects, resulting in a bright and clean surface finish.

Understanding Vacuum Furnaces Advantage
High Automation
Vacuum furnaces operate with a high level of automation, enabling fully mechanical or automatic control. Built-in monitoring and protection systems ensure stable and safe operation.
Low Distortion
The clean vacuum environment results in minimal workpiece distortion, typically only one-tenth to one-quarter of that in salt bath furnaces, significantly reducing finishing allowances.
Improved Properties
Vacuum heating provides effective degassing and degreasing, improving material microstructure and significantly enhancing mechanical properties and service life.
Energy Efficient
With high thermal efficiency and low heat loss, vacuum furnaces require no protective gases, generate minimal pollution, and provide a safe and clean working environment.
Superior Surface
Workpiece surfaces remain free from oxidation and decarburization, maintaining high surface quality and stable chemical composition while reducing surface defects.
Higher Cost
Due to radiant heating, vacuum furnaces have slower heating rates and limited batch capacity, making them less suitable for mass production and requiring higher initial investment.
Why Are Vacuum Furnaces Used For Annealing High-end Metals
Traditional annealing is carried out in air or under a common protective atmosphere, but even a small amount of oxygen or moisture can "damage" the metal at high temperatures. The ultimate solution to this problem is a vacuum heat treatment furnace.
As a professional industrial heat treatment furnaces manufacturer , CHTEE can provide vacuum annealing furnaces and vacuum quenching furnaces. Please continue reading to see how we solve the problems of workpiece heat treatment.
The Four Core Systems of a Vacuum Annealing Furnace
A standard vacuum annealing furnace, much like a "high-tech thermos," consists of four key components:
🔧 Double-layered water-cooled furnace body
Stainless steel outer shell + interlayer cooling water, ensuring the outside remains cool to the touch while the inside can reach 1200℃.
🌀 Vacuum system
A mechanical pump leads the way, followed by a molecular pump, capable of evacuating the air inside the furnace to just one ten-thousandth of its original pressure (up to 10⁻⁵ Pa), making it even "emptier" than outer space!
🌡 Heating system
Commonly uses graphite or molybdenum/tungsten heating elements, transferring heat through radiation in a vacuum, ensuring cleanliness and efficiency.
🧠 Intelligent temperature control + cooling system
PID precise temperature control (±1℃), and can also use argon or nitrogen gas for rapid cooling, with full programmability.
How does it work? Four steps!
Closing the door → Vacuuming
Place the workpiece inside, close the door, and activate the "vacuum mode".
Air, water vapor, and oxygen are all removed, creating a "sterile environment" inside the furnace.
Starting heating → Uniform temperature rise
The heating element is powered on, transferring heat to the workpiece through radiation, similar to how the sun heats the earth.
Because there is no air convection interference, the temperature is more uniform, preventing uneven heating.
Holding temperature → Structural regeneration
After reaching the set temperature, the temperature is held for a period of time, allowing the metal's internal grains to "rearrange," eliminating residual stress and restoring plasticity.
Cooling → Program control
Cooling can be slow (cooling with the furnace) or fast using inert gas, entirely according to process requirements.
Finally, the workpiece is removed from the vacuum furnace—
The surface is bright and new, without any oxidation, and the composition remains unchanged—perfect!
Who uses this kind of "advanced furnace"?
✈️ Aerospace
Titanium alloys and nickel-based superalloys cannot have even a trace of contamination;
💡 Semiconductors/Electronics
Silicon wafers and target materials require extremely high purity;
🏥 Medical Devices
Alloys implanted in the human body must be defect-free;
🔋 New Energy
Soft magnetic materials used in power batteries require precise annealing.
In these fields, vacuum annealing is already standard practice.
